Maddox's Preschool Graduation Ceremony...

Photobucket
Tuesday was Maddox's preschool graduation ceremony. The kids sang a bunch of fun songs (videos at the bottom) and received their diplomas. They all looked so cute.

After they sang songs (and before receiving their diplomas) we all watched a slide show of pictures of the kids. They were all so cute and like yelling out the names of their classmates in the pictures.

All the kids threw their hats before Maddy knew what was going on. It worked out great because by the time I got close enough to take a picture most of them had already threw them. I made it just in time to get this picture of him throwing his.

Photobucket
Maddox, We are so proud of you! You know (and can write) all of the letters and you know most of the sounds of all the letters. You do a great job writing your name and have learned so much. You have learned so many other things in school as well. Great job!

Photobucket
Here is some video footage of the kids singing. Maddox sang quite a bit more during this performance, I wish he would've been more visible. He is on the top row, fourth from your left. After the first song his hat started sliding off and he pretty much spent the rest of the time trying to get it back on correctly. The second and third videos cut off before the songs were over because my memory card was full and I had to stop and delete some pictures before recording more...

Yard Work...

Photobucket
It seems like the yard work never ends around here. I mow the lawn every Thursday and I try and do a little weeding everyday because I'm at the maintenance stage (and want to keep it that way.) Steve edges the lawn on Thursdays and takes care of the fertilizing, sprinklers, spraying, pond, etc. He also is constantly adding, removing and moving trees and shrubs. He was planting a new tree and cutting out more lawn to add shrubs when I took this picture. He did not want me to take a picture and was telling me to stop while he was laughing.

Whatever Wednesday: Iron Man 2...

Photobucket
Saturday night we got a babysitter and went and saw Iron Man 2. I liked it but Steve was a little disappointed. He thought the first one was a lot better. I really liked Scarlet Johansson's character.

Pirate Party...

Photobucket
On Saturday Maddy went to a "End of school Pirate party." One of his school friends invited him and he was really excited. It was at a park in Orem and they had lots of fun. They had a treasure hunt, pinata, and a few other games. They also all got foam swords, eye patches and earrings. They had pizza, juice and cupcakes. I planned on dropping him off (and running some errands) so I took the picture above before we left because he looked so cute. However when I got there he really wanted me to stay so Avery and I both stayed and had some "Pirate" fun.

Maddy all decked out... don't you love the earrings! He thought it was pretty cool to flip the eye patch up and wore it that way most of the time.

NICU Follow Up Appointment...

Photobucket
On Friday Avery had her (long) NICU follow up appointment. It is usually 4-5 hours and she normally sees 6-7 specialists. This time it only ended up being about 3 1/2 hours because they didn't have as many kids scheduled and we got her eye exam out of the way the previous week. She also didn't have to see the Feeding and Nutrition specialists because she is doing much better with her chewing and eating regular table food.

She saw the eye Dr. a week ago Friday and surprisingly her eyes are actually better then they were about a year ago. Both her near sightedness and her astigmatism are milder. I need to get her some new glasses now because the ones she has now are too strong. I was a little concerned with her right eye, it sometimes goes a little cross eyed. He said she has a mild case of a condition that makes it to where she can't move her left eye to the far outside so when she tries to her right eye will cross a little. He said it's nothing to be concerned about and she won't ever have to have it corrected.

The Pediatrician (Dr. Bybee) did a full physical evaluation. He checked all her major organs and general health and everything looked great. He did hear a very slight heart murmur but isn't concerned at this point. He said he will just listen for it next time and to have her regular Dr. listen for it the next time she is seen. He said some kids have them on and off during childhood but they usually go away. Since she was born at 25 1/2 weeks gestation he can't believe she hasn't ever had to be hospitalized or had to go to the Dr. for anything other then her well child visits. We have been so blessed with both kids health! Neither of them have ever had ear infections or gotten really sick at all. We have yet to make a ER or InstaCare visit... knock on wood!

Next she saw the Nurse who took all her measurements.
Head 46.4 cm
Weight 26 lbs. (10%)
Height 95 cm (50%-75%)
She is staying the same on her growth curve-which is good. She did jump on the chart in height-she must get that from her Dad.

After she saw the Nurse she saw a Psychologist (Mike Steffen.) He was very impressed with her cognitive development. I told him I was a little concerned about things like her learning her colors and animals. Most of the time when I ask her what color something is she says "color" instead of saying an actual color. So he did a bunch of color testing. I was surprised, she aced it all. A couple of the ways he tested her was he showed her a picture that had different colors of crayons on it and then gave her different colored discs and asked her to put the colored disc on top of the same colored crayon in the picture. She put them all in the right place her first try. Then he had three small cups and placed a red dowel in one, a yellow dowel in another and then a blue one in the last one. He then gave her five more of each colored dowels and told her to put them in the right cup. She put them all in the right cup except one-which she hurried and fixed once she realized she put it into the wrong cup. He said she just might not have the vocabulary yet to vocalize the colors but that she knows them. He also did things like build a small wall and then took it apart and told her to build it. She built it the exact same way he did. He was really impressed because he said a lot of kids her age can't do that yet. He said to work on verbs with her. For example, show her pictures of people doing things and ask her what they are doing... like playing, eating, sleeping etc. He also said to work on counting objects with her.

Next she saw a Speech Therapist (Ann Sumner.) She did really well naming objects and using complete sentences and pointing out the correct objects. She fell within a few months of her age on all results which is considered the "normal range." Her verbal skills score was 2 yrs. 8 months (compared to her adjusted age of 2 yrs. 9 months) and her understanding score was 2 yrs. 5 months. Near the end of the evaluation she wasn't wanting to focus much (we had been there almost 3 1/2 hours already) and we kind of laughed about her doing awesome "when she wanted to." Which is completely the way she is. She has a hard time sitting still most of the time, but if it is something she is really interested in she does awesome! Which I'm pretty sure is typical of most 3 year old's.

All of the Dr.'s and staff are awesome! They are so patient and genuinely concerned about the children. I am so proud of Avery and grateful that she is progressing so well. We couldn't have asked for a better outcome to such a scary situation. We love you Avery!

Loved B&W again!

Music Monday: Vampire Diaries Edition...

If you're not watching Vampire Diaries you're missing out in my opinion! Not only is it a great (unpredictable) series, the music is awesome. Here is one of the songs I really like (there are links to four more really good songs that were played during the same episode) ...

Love, Maddy...

Photobucket
Maddy made this necklace for me for Mother's Day at preschool and I love it! I love the little poem that came with it as well.

Photobucket
I love the back of the necklace even more because it has his fingerprints on it. He was so cute when I picked him up from school on Thursday. He said "Mom, I need to give you a big hug when we get home." I said something like "Really, I can't wait!" He said "Yea, my teacher said so."

Photobucket
He made me this card in his Primary class on Sunday.

Photobucket
On Monday night he decided he wasn't finished with it and wrote me a big long letter (in his own language) on the inside. He started telling me what he had written and it was so cute I decided to record him reading it to me (it's a bit long but worth it in my opinion)...

After we watched the video back he clarified that he meant to say "Eat healthy food", not "Drink healthy food."

P.S. Did you know there is an "unlisted" option on Youtube. I've been trying to upload this video through Blogger for days now and it kept failing. I've been hesitant to post this kind of stuff to Youtube in the past but found out there are "private" and "unlisted" options. The "unlisted" option makes it to where only people that have the link can view the video. It won't show up on any searches or anything like that. Just thought I would pass that on.

Whatever Wednesday: Duets...

Loved the duets on American Idol last night...

I hope these two are the final two-and I really hope Lee wins! It was "movie song" night and this song is from the movie "Once" which I love. I previously mentioned one of my favorite songs from the movie here.

My "Mommy" Day...

Photobucket
I had a great Mother's Day this year! Sunday mornings are always a bit hectic because we have 9am church. Last night we were out pretty late with the kids doing a little shopping and eating at IHOP (I love breakfast for dinner.) Needless to say it was a crazy morning, but I made sure I had Steve take a few pictures of the kids and I before we left for church. It was a beautiful morning... nice and bright, thus the squinty eyes. Steve (and the kids) sent me some really cool e-cards. Some were sentimental and others well... lets just say humorous! After church Steve took the kids outside so I could take a nap-it was great! I ended the night with a banana split before heading to bed.

Photobucket
LOVE Avery's new dress. My sister Jamie (and family) gave it to her for her birthday.

Photobucket
Maddy was a little grumpy and not real cooperative and this was the best I got. Steve bribed him with "a surprise that was green" (which ended up being a dollar), to get him to cooperate for the one of me and the kids.

Photobucket
Couldn't decide between color and b&w...

I love being a Mom and can't imagine my life without my kids. They bring such joy into my life. Thanks Steve for being such a great Husband and Father and taking this journey with me, I love you! Maddy and Avery-I love you two so much!

Music Monday: Eet...

I like this song because it's fun and different.

Here are a couple more of her songs I really like...

Mine...

Photobucket
I'm so lucky to have these two faces looking up at me every day!

I want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to both My Mom and Steve's Mom as well as all the other Mom's out there. I hope you feel as lucky as I do!

Domino Effect...

Photobucket
Sunday evening we took a drive to my sister Jamie's house. Steve is helping his friend Dan landscape Jamie's house and they needed to plan things out. It just so happens that it was dinner time... lucky us! Jamie thinks we planned it that way-I promise we didn't, but how convenient. I guess we will be returning the favor next Sunday. The food was super yummy! We had grilled chicken (which was marinated overnight in my Dad's famous marinade), mashed potatoes, candied carrots and garlic toast.

The Chef and I.

Photobucket
After we ate we had lots of fun playing Dominos. The "little boys" pretty much schooled the "bigger boys."

Photobucket
My niece Lola and I... isn't she the cutest!

Photobucket
I tried to help but for some reason my brain was a little slow with the math that night (normally I'm a wiz)...

Photobucket
Don't you love my game face!?! I was really trying to concentrate. Here are some more "game faces" from the night...

Photobucket
Will (a friend of Ben and Jamie's.)

Photobucket
My niece Claire... she's such a Diva!

Photobucket
Ben (I call him Benny & he calls me Teffie)... "I'm pretty sure he was thinking "Stop with the camera already!"

Photobucket
Miss Avery Kate... if there is food she will find it!

Photobucket
My niece Lola... dessert anyone? Love it!

Photobucket
Your's Truly... in case you were wondering.

Photobucket
Thanks Jamie (and family) we had a GRRREAT time!

Whatever Wednesday: Fake Bake...

Photobucket
I'm trying really hard to fight the urge to hit the tanning beds this year. I know it's not good for my skin, especially since I'm the perfect example of the high risk category (fair skinned, blue eyed blond.) Every year I go through this debate in my head (cause I really do love the tan and relaxation that you can get so quickly from a tanning bed) and usually give in. This year I decided (at the recommendation of my hair stylist Brooke) to try the Fake Bake self tanner. She swears by this stuff (and says she has tried tons of different self tanners over the years.) It's the same brand she uses to spray tan people. I must admit I was nervous about trying it (I've only ever tried one other self tanner and it was one of those you see on an infomercial on TV and it was like 10 years ago), but I went for it. It took me a couple times to feel confident in applying it but I'm really loving it so far. I love the color and haven't had problems with streaking. She picked it up for me at the beauty supply store but I Googled it and saw several different places you can get it for about 15 dollars (it retails for around $29.) It's a 6 oz. bottle and comes with gloves to apply it with. I would recommend it if you are wanting that tan but don't want to damage your skin.

Supercross...

Photobucket
Saturday Steve (and his friends Dan and Randy) took Maddy to Supercross at the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake. This was his first time ever going to something like this and he was so excited! He loves dirt bikes and loves watching it with Steve on TV so we knew he would love to go. They made a day out of it and left around 1:30PM and didn't get home until almost 11:30PM. I made Steve promise to take at least one picture of them so I could document the experience for Maddy. Just to be safe I told Dan to make sure he did. I must say I was impressed...

Photobucket

Photobucket
This is Joshua Hansen's bike... I'm sure they took the picture because green is Maddy's favorite color.

Photobucket
James Stewart's bike... Steve's favorite rider. He didn't race because he is out with an injury.

Photobucket
While they were at the Motocross pits they got to meet some of the riders. This is Jeff Alessi who rides for Yamaha.

Photobucket
Some of the older bikes.

Photobucket
Steve said as soon as the race started lots of people in the crowd were yelling and cheering for their favorite riders and Maddy was so excited. He started yelling "Dirt Bikes! Dad, look at all the Dirt Bikes!" He kept yelling it over and over and Steve said a bunch of people in the crowd were laughing because it was so cute.

Photobucket
They said it was super cold and rained a ton. Lots of people ended up leaving but Steve purposely bought tickets for seats that were covered in case it rained, so they stuck it out. I made sure they were prepared and Maddy took his backpack with coat, hoodie, beenie, gloves, camera, drinks and snacks. Steve said Maddy did really well given the cold circumstances. Steve told Maddy he was doing an awesome job and Maddy said, "It's because I have patience." I thought that was pretty cute. Steve bought him a burger and a lemonade that came in a really cool bottle that he brought home. For $8 it better be something reusable! It was the first thing he showed me when they got home.

Photobucket
They told me the riders were covered in mud.

Photobucket
Maddy didn't quite make it and fell asleep for about the last half hour. They waited until it was pretty cleared out before leaving.

Avery and I hung out at home all day and I got caught up on some stuff I've been putting off. After I put Avery to bed I went downstairs and put in one of my favorite Matchbox Twenty concert dvd's and had my own little personal concert.
