Locked Out...In My Underwear...

Today started out just like every other day normally does. Getting up with the kids, changing diapers, getting the kids breakfast and cleaning up messes . Then my day became a little out of the ordinary. At about 9:45am I put Avery down for her nap and took some dirty diapers out to the trash can in our garage. As I headed back toward the door to the house I heard a little click. Turns out Maddy had locked the garage door with me still in the garage. To make things worse I hadn't showered and gotten ready for the day yet and was still in my under garments. Once I realized the door was locked my mind started going a million miles an hour trying to figure out how I was going to get back into the house without total humiliation. I felt so helpless and kept thinking things like what if Maddy falls and gets hurt and I can't help him. Luckily Avery was in her crib so I didn't have to worry about her. My cell phone was in the house and of course all my doors were locked like they always are. The visual actually ran through my head of me running to a neighbors house it broad daylight in my underwear to use their phone and then trying to explain my situation while standing there in my underwear. Maddy was on the other side of the door crying that he couldn't open it(door) and I was trying to tell him how. I tried for about five minutes and realized it just wasn't going to happen. So I looked around for something to put on so I could go out of the garage. I never thought I would be so grateful for my husbands dirt bike riding gear and hoodie that he had for some reason left in the garage(which never happens.) So I put on his huge XL hoodie and his enormous size 38 riding pants which I had to cinch up and hold in a wad around my waist so they wouldn't just fall to the ground and then I ran across the street to my neighbors house to use her phone. I called Steve to see if by some chance there was a key hidden outside that I didn't know about. He was with a client and didn't recognize the number so he didn't answer the first time. I left a message and tried again and luckily he answered this time. He told me there might be one above our door so I grabbed a ladder(while holding my pants up), climbed up and looked. Of course there wasn't one there. Then I remembered that I had left our living room window open last night to try and cool down the house. So I got a little tool from the garage and popped the screen open in the corner and called for Maddy so I wouldn't have to climb through the window. I told him to come open the blinds so he could see me. Then I told him to go get his "ride on car" and stand on it to get my keys off the counter and bring them to me. I never thought I would be so happy to have my keys in my hands. I unlocked the door and was so glad to be back in my house. Maddy was so excited that he was such a big helper and told me how he kept saying, "Mama, Mama, come back in the house." So today I am very grateful for the following; hubby's hoodie and dirt bike pants(I can't imagine how embarrassing it would've been), garage door openers, great neighbors who I am comfortable asking for help(thanks Shauna), phones, tools, toy ride on cars, keys, my house and of course my kids-especially Maddy who without I wouldn't have ever been in this situation, but was so happy he was able to help me out. I was so relieved to be able to give him a big hug and know he was ok. So I guess I needed this little lesson to remind me to not take things(big or small) for granted.

Cute story! But I am sure it wasn't very fun at the time. Toddlers are so smart.

That is the funniest story ever. I got locked out of my house in my little robe once, but luckily I found an open window too, but I had to climb through it. Anyway, good times.

Oh my!!! I needed a good laugh tonight....sorry it was at your expense! I have been paranoid about that exact thing happening to me because I am very accident prone. However, I never thought about the dirt bike clothes, I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever take an unfortunate stroll around the neighborhood in my "G's". Joe's should be easy to get to. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully you can laugh about it. By the way, I loved all the pictures you posted. What a beautiful family!!!

You had me at the edge of seat waiting to hear what you were going to do in your garments. I think I would have died! I better go hide some extra clothes outside just in case of an emergency. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! I don't know what I would've done. Good thing Steve's clothes were there. Thanks for the idea.

Too funny! I should be careful, I often hurry and take out the trash in my "G's". But I'm sure the Sanders would miss that part of being neighbors if I ever stopped . . .

For a minute there I thought you would have to run to the neighbors in your undies....brought me back to High School streakers on homecoming! "Phew!" Did you take a picture in your rescue costume?
